Microwave to save

Here’s how to save:

  • Use it as much as you can
Instead of boiling vegetables in a pan of water, do them in the microwave. Put them in a pot and loosely cover and cook until done.

  • Use it for defrosting

  • Remember to switch it off
Did you know that many microwaves use more electricity just sitting there than actually cooking?
Often the amount of energy used by the clock display running day in day out is more than that used in the short bursts of cooking. Hence switch it off at the wall when done and save at least half its energy use.

Much cheaper to run than ovens

Microwaves are the most energy efficient way of warming food. Instead of warming the air like an oven does, they warm the food itself, putting the heat just where it is needed.

All this saves massive amounts of energy – in fact a microwave can cook a meal with five to ten times less energy than a normal oven.

Remember:

  • Use it as much as you can
  • Use it for defrosting
  • Remember to switch it off
